Following a previous successful project at BskyB’s new Grant Way campus, lead contractor Mace has awarded Prater an additional contract, to design and install a photovoltaic (PV) system. Producing electricity to power Building Two, Prater is utilising off-site manufacturing facilities to streamline on-site operations and assemble high-performance components to generate the contractor’s largest PV energy output to-date.

The latest contract is a continuation of Prater’s involvement at the site, having previously delivered a roofing and façade package at the campus - the largest glue laminated timber project in the UK. Now as part of a new scope of works, the installation of a new PV system will have a significant impact on the campus’ overall energy-efficiency. The package includes the design and installation of 1,372 PV modules to cover 2,260sqm of roofing. The scale of this has required a two-phase installation programme, with the second phase now underway, due for completion in February 2016.

“Our latest contract at BskyB is an extension of the vast works already completed,” explained Gavin Hamblett, Managing Director at Prater. “The PV system designed and now being installed by our team will also contribute to the BREEAM Excellent environmental ratings for the buildings. The 462kwp system is the largest output from a Prater PV installation to-date and will provide BskyB with a large-scale renewable energy source to continually help power their facility.”
