Our continuing success depends on our ability to develop and listen to our people. We undertake comprehensive reviews of staff requirements on a regular basis, and continually assess and update to align with our strategies targets and commitments.

  • We review staff performance, assessing the training needs of individuals and groups to enhance both personal and business performance. 
  • We have been audited to the upgraded IIP accreditation, and achieved a comprehensively positive assessment. 
  • We continue to enhance the working environment in which our people operate. This includes providing local office facilities – on a case-by-case basis – to suit individual circumstances. 
  • We have a number of UK regional offices to best meet the need of our clients as we are UK focused business, the main Board of Directors however are based at Head Office and drive the business forward so there is consistency throughout.

Richard Unwin CEO Lindner Group UK Sector

Richard joined Prater in 1983 and quickly progressed to Divisional Director. He was recognised for his ability to efficiently manage resources and dedication to the well being of employees and was appointed Operations Director in 2004 and Managing Director in 2013. 

Richard was then appointed CEO of Lindner Group UK Sector in 2014 and also sits on the Lindner Fassaden GmbH board.

Gavin Hamblett Managing Director

Gavin joined Prater in 2006 as Client Relationship Director. He has been responsible for negotiating major projects primarily in the hospital, schools, Ministry of Defence and railway sectors.

In 2009 Gavin became Pre-Construction Director where he continued to secure business as well as managing the design team of 60 employees.

Gavin was appointed as Managing Director for Prater Ltd in January 2015.

Andy Newman Director Lindner Group UK Sector

In 1987, Andy joined the company as an Estimator and by 1991 was appointed Divisional Manager for the BUR and single ply division.

With an eye for new business opportunities, Andy's responsibilities increased on all pre-construction activities for the business when he became Business Development Director in 2002.

In January 2015, Andy was appointed to the Lindner UK Group Board.

Richard Davies Finance Director & Company Secretary

Richard joined Prater in 1987 from Ernst & Young where he had previously worked in Africa and the Middle East.

A year later, Richard was appointed Finance Director for the company and he is now responsible for all financial and legal aspects of the business.

Tony Birkbeck Non-Executive Director

Tony joined Prater in 1966 as a trainee surveyor, and quickly progressed to Chief Surveyor and then Operations Director. With a strong business acumen and in-depth industry knowledge, he was appointed Managing Director in 2004.

A fellow of the Institute of Roofing and a fellow of the Institute of Asphalt Technology, Tony also chaired the Technical committee in the 1980s. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Tony retired in December 2012 and has now taken the role of a non-executive Director for Prater.

David Galavan Commercial Director

David joined Prater in March 2001 and after a few short months became Commercial Director. He is responsible for all surveying and contracting matters within the business.

David has previously worked for Bovis, both in the UK and abroad, PQS practice and Main Contractors, UK and Ireland.

He is a Graduate of Trinity College Dublin, and the Dublin Institute of Technology

Chris Leach Operations Director

In 2001, Chris joined Prater as General Manager for Airports and a year later became Operations Director responsible for Airports and Pre-assembly projects.

With a background in engineering, he has worked on many major projects including Broadgate, JLE, Bluewater, Canary Wharf and more recently, BAA airports. He is also currently reviewing international opportunities for the business.

Kevin Smith Sales Director

Kevin began his career at Prater as an Estimator in 2006 having gained specialist experience in façade construction. 

Over the past 10 years he has held a number of senior roles, most recently as Associate Director for Sales and Estimating. 

In 2015, Kevin oversaw businesses development across all market disciplines and was instrumental in securing a number of prestigious projects, such as the New Southern General Hospital in Glasgow and Embassy Gardens.

Stuart Whiting Technical Director

Stuart Whiting has over 13 years of valuable expertise and experience working within the construction sector. Since joining specialist contractor Prater in 2011 as Manager of the Solar PV division and subsequently Pre-Construction Manager Stuart has played a vital role in the delivery of some of the UK’s most challenging and complex projects. These include the redevelopment of London Bridge Station, BSkyB Building 2 (the largest glue laminated timber project in the UK) as well as Phase One of Battersea Power Station.

Appointed as Associate Director of the Design & Technical department at Prater in 2015 and joining the main Board in June 2016, Stuart is also responsible for the company’s successful implementation of digital engineering and Building Information Modelling, together with the management of the company’s factories.
