The last year has been a hugely productive time here at Prater, with a number of high-profile projects drawing to completion. One of my favourite projects was at First Street in Manchester, where our project teams delivered cladding and roofing at one of Manchester’s newest mixed-use developments. Read on to find out why Kate Prater, Associate Director – Marketing at Prater thinks this project deserves particular recognition.
First Street was a great example of how off-site fabrication can streamline on-site operations. With work taking place over a 13-month construction programme - timing was crucial in constructing and delivering components in accordance with the schedule.
We began on-site in March 2014 and used our off-site factory in West Thurrock to deliver the roofing, curtain-walling and glazing materials when the installation teams were ready. This approach helped our project team to overcome heavy congestion on-site.
Overall, our engineers were responsible for installing over 51 units of Reynaers Curtain-Walling, a range of Reynaers CS68 Doors and Hortons 2001 Sliding Door units, as well as 826 Trimo Rainscreen Composite Panels and Radmat’s Permaquik hot melt waterproofing system for the roofing works.
What really makes this project memorable to me is the fact our team had to work in such a restrictive space alongside a number of other contractors. The location - next to a railway arch and directly in the middle of Manchester, made accessibility extremely difficult. It meant we had to work collaboratively with all parties to adhere to a strict programme and fundamentally – this was why we were able to deliver a complex project on time.
