As part of a regeneration programme in Woolwich, Tesco’s development arm Spenhill announced a £90million mixed-use site. The 17-storey development features an 80,000 sq ft superstore sitting below 259 residential units.
Appointed by lead contractor Willmott Dixon, Prater delivered a range of works at the site, which included the complete building envelope, as well as providing the detailed design for all the scope items.
Works carried out consisted of the building’s backing wall, windows and doors, the unitised, stick and structurally glazed curtain wall screens and the zinc and Trespa cladding to all balconies, as well as delivering structural waterproofing and single ply roofing.
A challenging factor in this particular project was the location of the site. The island project – where buildings and roads surround the site – meant the planning of deliveries and construction was a complex process. We overcame this through the use of off-site construction, which allowed for greater control over the manufacturing and supply process to the site. The majority of the cladding was pre-fabricated at our Thurrock factory, helping to ensure that the store opened as scheduled.
