The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, formerly the South Glasgow Hospital, is the largest NHS hospital building project undertaken in Scotland.
Brookfield Multiplex established a supply chain under the procurement framework agreement, appointing Prater to deliver key elements of the external envelope.
The design and value engineering element of the process had an integral role to play. Once Nightingale Associates developed the architectural intent, our in-house design team produced over 1,500 drawings and assisted in developing the 4D Model for the project.
Our ability to deliver the building façade, the roof waterproofing and finishes in one single package and to programme ‘closing the building in’ also offered a multitude of benefits for the project.
Finally, Prater signed up to the project’s Community Benefit Strategy. Wherever possible access plant equipment, structural steel fabrication, secondary steel and flashings, render systems and components were all sourced from local companies in Glasgow. This ensured the carbon footprint of the project was minimised and that local expertise and skills were utilised.
