This year Prater has delivered a vast range of specialist works on a number of complex rail projects. Among them has been Network Rail’s Basingstoke Campus, where our teams were responsible for providing the timber cladding and curtain walling at the six-acre, mixed-use development scheme.
The vast new campus is a £35 million state-of-the-art signalling and training centre that controls all signalling across the Wessex route. The facility comprises of a three-storey, multi-purpose building and welding facility, as well as classrooms, training simulation spaces and a Route Operating Centre, which over the next 60 years is set to contribute towards savings of more than £2.5 billion in signalling costs. The centre also houses up to 2,000 staff, with over 300 trainees visiting every day.
Prater was appointed to install a range of Trimo cladding and Kingspan composite panels to the external, vertical walls and roof areas, as well as a Euroclad SF500 standing seam hidden fixing roof system. Additionally, our teams also fitted a range of Schuco curtain walls, doors and roof lights within both buildings. Our work on site concluded in January 2015.
As we expand our services and offerings into more complicated and niche sectors such as rail, it is important that we continue to develop strong working relationships with those at the forefront of their respected fields. Effective collaboration with Network Rail is therefore paramount; hopefully we’ll be working on many more exciting projects together in the future.
