We recently celebrated the successful opening of the first phase of one of our most iconic projects – the redevelopment of London Bridge Station. Our teams delivered an extensive scope of works and pioneered new build techniques on this complex and highly collaborative project – working closely with Network Rail, Costain and Severfield.
The project has reached a major milestone with two-thirds of the newly redeveloped concourse and three new platforms now open to the public. The ongoing six-year, £400m upgrade to the Victorian era station is due for completion in spring 2018. Once fully open, the redeveloped station will increase the number of routes and destinations served by London Bridge and provide a better travel experience for passengers.
Since 2013, Prater has provided design, manufacture and installation services on a contract encompassing the entire building envelope – following work on other high profile rail projects. Due to the complexity of the development, we worked with Severfield to pioneer the use of a full sized offsite prototype, which was used to test the build process and address potential issues before work on site began. This early decision by the project team has been a critical factor in the success to date.
Managing Director Gavin Hamblett commented: “The teams involved in the London Bridge project have worked extremely hard over the past four years to deliver on this, at times, challenging redevelopment. As such we are delighted to see the new concourse and platforms now open to the public.
“Collaboration with Network Rail, Costain and Severfield has been so important to the successful redevelopment of this historic London station. I believe we can be justifiably proud of what has been achieved so far. With work continuing for the next 18 months we look forward to the next project milestone, and ultimately seeing the completed station fully open to the public.”
